PRESCHOOL /
PRE-KINDERGARTEN

St. Paul Lutheran School's Pre-Kindergarten is a private Christian school that has been caring for children in Roseburg since 1980. We strive to create an environment of loving, learning, and fun for each child. Our teachers engage in continuing education and work to stay current on early learning practices and teaching techniques. At St. Paul we offer an interactive learning environment and a warm and loving place where each child is cared for and nurtured.

Class sizes of ten children or less are tailored to be developmentally appropriate for every child and we offer Pre-Kindergarten for children from 30 months and potty-trained to 5 years old. Our school has an excellent kindergarten readiness program that specifically addresses the areas that children need to be successful in elementary school.

Our curriculum is on a two year cycle and we offer different monthly themes each year. We teach chronologically through

the Bible each year and Music and Movement is also a part of our curriculum.

EDUCATION

Research shows that providing your children with a positive preschool program has beneficial long-term effects on their long-term education. Experts have found that children who attend high quality preschool programs have better vocabularies and more advanced literacy and math skills than children who don’t.

In addition, children in preschool programs have advanced social skills and are more adaptable to changes and new situations.

Our school uses developmentally appropriate practices and an intentionally designed center based curriculum. This includes a combination of play-based experiences with teacher-directed and child-initiated activities. Theory and research shows there is a direct relationship between active social play and early language and literacy development which is what drives the content of the curriculum in our language arts and creative arts classrooms.

SPIRITUAL GROWTH

At St. Paul Lutheran School, we believe that a meaningful education includes an understanding and appreciation of God, His purpose, His character, and His abundant love. Children grow in their faith and knowledge of God as they learn of His love through Bible stories. Children learn to build friendships based on Christ-like kindness, respect, and forgiveness.

Our staff recognizes that they are here to nurture each child's spiritual growth as it is integrated in all other aspects of learning. The Christian faith is implemented in all facets of the educational process. Through the process of education and faith, it is our intent to bring the child into a loving relationship with our Savior, a sharing relationship with peers, and a caring relationship with the community and world.
